Dakota State (S.D.) used 33-13 third quarter outburst to roll past Mayville State (N.D.)

MADISON, S.D. — No. 4 Dakota State (S.D.) exploded for 33 third-quarter points and buried 16 three-pointers as the Trojans ran away from Mayville State (N.D.), 92–51, in Frontier Conference action Friday evening at DSU Fieldhouse. 
Dakota State (9–1 overall record, 4–0 Frontier) built a 41–23 halftime advantage before completely taking control in the third quarter. The Trojans' lead ballooned to as many as 43 points in the fourth quarter.

DSU lifted their home record to 6-0 this season.
 

First Half Highlights
DSU used its perimeter shooting to jump out quickly, hitting six triples in the opening quarter to take a 22–15 lead. Bria Wasmund, Caitlin Dyer, and Hamtyn Heinz all connected from deep.

The Comets were held to just eight (8) points in the second quarter, as DSU's defense forced six turnovers and limited MSU to 3-of-14 field goals shooting. The Trojans pushed the lead to 18 points before settling for a 41–23 advantage at the break.
 

Second Half Highlights
Dakota State's third-quarter performance sealed the game. The Trojans outscored Mayville State 33–13 in the period, fueled by:
  • Five (5) made 3-point field goals
  • Nine (9) assists on 10 field goals
  • 15 total rebounds
  • 8-of-12 performance at the line
  • 10-of-17 field goals (58.8 percent)
Dyer poured in 15 of her game-high 23 points in the third quarter alone, hitting two triples and going 3-of-4 at the stripe. Heinz knocked down two more threes in the frame as the lead swelled beyond 35 points.

The Trojans outscored the Comets 18-15 in the final quarter.

The Comets (1–7 overall record, 0–4 Frontier) were limited to 27.1 percent field goal shooting (19-of-70 field goals) and hit just 2-of-11 from three. They were led by:
