Blue Hawks shut down Trojans in NSAA softball action

Dakota State (S.D.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) play another NSAA doubleheader Saturday

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State (N.D.) shut downDakota State (S.D.) with identical scores of 8-0 Friday afternoon in the North Star Athletic Association softball action at Sanford Sports Complex on Bravera Field.  The Blue Hawks outhit 20-3 for the day.

Dakota State is 4-27 overall record and 0-10 NSAA conference record.  Dickinson State lifted their overall record to 23-9 and 9-1 record in the league.

Both teams play another doubleheader Saturday afternoon to complete their NSAA four-game series.  The first game is set for 2 p.m. (Central Time)/1 p.m. (Mountain Time).

Game 1 – Dickinson State (N.D.) 8, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/5 innings

Alison Eldridge (W, 10-5) tossed a complete game shutout no-hitter game for Dickinson State.  She finished the game with six strikeouts in the pitching circle.

The Blue Hawks erupted for five runs in the bottom first inning, capped by a RBI double from Cassidy Venner for a 5-0 lead. 

Kiley Hubby blasted a 2-run home run in the bottom third inning to balloon DiSU's lead to 7-0.

Dickinson State made it 8-0 in the bottom fourth as Brooke Lijewski hit an RBI ground out to score Celina Wilharm, who hit a triple with one out.

Bailey Hansen finished the game by going 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI for DiSU.  Wilharm and Hubby each added two hits.  Hubby and Lijewski each drove in three runs.

Maycee Bricker (L, 3-7) took the defeat after tossing a complete game in the pitching circle for Dakota State.  She recorded two strikeouts.

Game 2 – Dickinson State (N.D.) 8, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/6 innings

Dakota State recorded the first hit of the day in the top second inning.  Torrence Clelland hit a single with two outs.

Dickinson State scored twice in the bottom half of the second frame.  Lijewski led off with a solo home run for a 1-0 DiSU lead.  The Blue Hawks made it 2-0 when Hubby added an RBI double to score Hansen, who hit a single.

DiSU ballooned their lead to 3-0 in the bottom third as Ashlee Potter hit a solo home run.  Dickinson State scored once in the bottom fourth and fifth innings to widen their lead to 5-0.

The Blue Hawks plated three runs in the bottom sixth inning to end the game, securing another 8-0 win.

Hannah McFarland, Clelland, and Hannah Feser each recorded a single for the Trojans.  Michelle Evdos and Gabrielle Ortega-Alves each registered a walk.

Potter, Lijewski, and Hansen each had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Hawks.  Allyson Farrington and Hubby each added a hit and an RBI.

Analicia Burgos (L, 0-8) took the setback after pitching 4 2/3 innings for Dakota State.  She registered four strikeouts.  Makenna McGee and Mason Usselman also pitched in relief.

Ava Jahner (W, 7-1) tossed a complete game victory for Dickinson State.  She scattered three singles, issued two walks, and recorded four strikeouts.
