MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State fell 4–1 to Concordia (Neb.) in their second home contest in three-day span Wednesday at the Dan Beacom Track & Field. The Trojans dropped to 0–2 overall record on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 2–0–1 overall record.
Concordia struck first in the 31
st minute when Guadalupe Sanchez scored her second goal of the year. Just seconds later, Dakota State had a chance to equalize on a penalty kick by
Ryelynn Hammer, but the shot went wide. The Bulldogs led the Trojans 1-0 by halftime.
The Bulldogs extended their lead early in the second half. Kyana Rios found the back of the net in the 47th minute, assisted by Savannah Andrews. In the 56th minute, Kierstynn Garner made it 3–0 off a pass from Elena Ruiz.
Dakota State answered in the 64
th minute, converting their historic first goal in women's soccer program history. Freshman forward
Nichole Corona converted a penalty kick, scoring her first goal of the season and trimming the deficit to 3–1. But just over a minute later, Sanchez tallied her second goal of the match, assisted by Evie Keller, to seal the 4–1 result.
DSU collected seven saves – with six saves coming from
Sierra Verplancke – compared to CUNE two saves.
Dakota State continues their five-game home stand in ten days as they host Midland (Neb.) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The match will be held at Dan Beacom Track & Field.
