(3) BU sweeps (24) DSU in battle of NAIA Women’s Volleyball Top 25 teams

Trojans to open 4-match Frontier Conference home stand at DSU Fieldhouse Friday afternoon (Whtie-Out)

September 10, 2025

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The No. 24-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) volleyball team fell on the road Wednesday evening at BU Fieldhouse.  No. 3 Bellevue (Neb.) defeated the Trojans in in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-16 in a Frontier Conference mid-week match-up.

Dakota State fell to 5-3 overall record and 1-2 Frontier conference record.  Bellevue, who is the defending NAIA national runner-up, improved to 6-2 overall record and 2-1 record in the league.  Both teams are traveling partners for the expanded 12-team Frontier Conference.

Opening Set
Dakota State showed early competitiveness in the first set, trading points with Bellevue in the opening rallies. Kills from Lauryn Kloth and Sophie Tuttle, both assisted by setter Maddi Langerock, helped the Trojans keep pace.

Defensive work from Kate VanRooyan and Sydney Wathen in the back row produced several digs that extended rallies. However, Bellevue's firepower, led by Eve Fountain and Kealy Kiviniemi, gradually pushed the Bruins ahead. Despite a late push that included kills from Tristyn Maras and Halle Bruflat, the Trojans dropped the opener, 25-18.

Second Set
The Bruins built early momentum in set two, capitalizing on a flurry of attack errors from the Trojans. Bellevue's middle blockers Savanna Berger and Bentlee Kollbaum controlled the net, combining for multiple blocks that stymied DSU's hitters.

Dakota State fought to regain rhythm, highlighted by Langerock's steady distribution and digs from VanRooyan, who finished with a team-high 13. Kloth added timely swings, but the Trojans couldn't close the gap, falling 25-15.

Third Set
In the final frame, Dakota State continued to battle, with Maras and Kloth providing offensive sparks. Tristyn Maras paced DSU with seven kills, while Kloth added five, keeping the Trojans within striking distance through the midway point of the set.

Bellevue responded with another strong surge behind Fountain's match-high 14 kills and the setting of Mila Aiwohi, who contributed out 18 assists.

Bellevue closed out the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
