MARSHALL, Minn. — Dakota State (S.D.) women's soccer fell 6–0 on the road against NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State Sunday afternoon at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center. It was the first road contest of the season for the Trojans.
The Mustangs (1-0-0) struck early and often, netting four first-half goals to take control. Virginia Pruitt opened the scoring in the 17
th minute off an assist from Mercy Godfrey, then added her second just five minutes later. Godfrey tallied a goal of her own in the 20
th minute, while Kylie Brazill made it 4–0 in the 34
th minute.
SMSU extended their lead in the second half as Brooke Wetterstrom scored twice, in the 55th and 58th minutes, capping the 6–0 victory. SMSU outshot Dakota State 28–2 overall and placed 15 shots on goal.
The Trojans (0-5-1 overall) managed just two shot attempts — one each from
Nichole Corona and
Aislyn Holden. The Trojans did not record a shot on target.
Goalkeepers
Sierra Verplancke and
Chloe Mart split time in net for DSU. Verplancke made six first half saves, while Mart added three stops in the second half.
Kennady Krebs earned the shutout for SMSU, needing no saves in 90 minutes of action.
Dakota State returns to action Wednesday, staying on the road against NAIA's Briar Cliff (Iowa). Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at Faber Field in Sioux City, Iowa.
