Trojan men’s indoor track & field athletes set personal records, add another athlete to NAIA national qualifiers list

Tordsen set pair of personal records and NAIA qualifying marks; Haugen (weight throw), Krueger (triple jump) wins event titles

SEWARD, Neb. – The Dakota State University Trojan men's indoor track & field teams highlighted with personal records and another athlete to the NAIA national qualifying list Friday in the Concordia (Neb.) Polar Dog Invitational.  The indoor track & field meet was held at Walz Fieldhouse.

Oliver Tordsen highlighted the Trojans with a pair of NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying throws in the meet.  He was second in the shot-put event after throwing a personal record 15.95 meters (52 feet, 4 inches).  His shot-put toss is the fifth best in the DSU men's indoor track & field school record book and No. 12 in the NAIA.

Lukus Mentele added a fifth-place finish in the shot-put, tossing 15.35 meters (50 feet, 4.5 inches).  Dylan Johansen added a career best 15.29 meters (50 feet, 2 inches) to finish seventh.  Keegan Hensley also threw a personal best 13.29 meters (43 feet, 7.25 inches).

Zachary Haugen won the weight throw title after recording NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying mark of 17.83 meters (58 feet, 6 inches) for the Trojans.  Tordsen was second with a personal record of 17.71 meters (58 feet, 1.25 inches), which is also an NAIA 'B' provisional mark.  His weight throw mark is the fifth best in school history and No. 13 in the NAIA.

Luke Borowicz added a personal record 15.97 meters toss (52 feet, 4.75 inches) to finish eighth in the weight throw.  Johansen registered 14.87 meters (48 feet, 9.5 inches), followed by Tarin Bingham 14.84 meters (48 feet, 8.25 inches), Mentele 14.80 meters (48 feet, 6.75 inches), and Hensley 13.09 meters (42 feet, 11.5 inches).

Brock Krueger leaped to a career best 13.77 meters (45 feet, 2.25 inches) to win the triple jump title for Dakota State.  His triple jump mark is the seventh best in the DSU men's indoor track & field school record book. Tanner Drietz added 12.41 meters leap (40 feet, 8.75 inches) to place sixth.

Drietz also placed sixth in the long jump after producing a personal record 6.32 meters (20 feet, 9 inches).  Kolter Simon leaped 5.66 meters (18 feet, 7 inches).

Tysen Grinde cleared the pole vault's height of 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.25 inches) to place third for DSU.  Rasmus Loken was seventh after clearing the height of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1.5 inches), followed by Miles Eide's mark of 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1.75 inches). 

Eide recorded a time of 9.27 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, while Simon added a time of 11.86 seconds.

Lukas Bennett clocked a time of 7.01 seconds to place third in the 60-meter dash.  He also finished third in the finals with the same time.  Jagger Lombard was fourth in the prelims in 7.08 seconds and fourth in the finals in 7.09 seconds.

Bennett was third in the 200-meter dash after registering a time of 22.75 seconds.  Weston Frangenberg was fifth in 23.65 seconds.  He also recorded a time of 53.51 seconds in the 400-meter dash, followed by Aaron Van Hemert with a time of 55.26 seconds.

Tyler Nicke crossed the 800-meter run's finish line with a third-place finish in 1 minute, 59.70 seconds for the Trojans.  Dawson Miller was sixth in 2:03.77, followed by Holden Jelen seventh in 2:03.89.

Finley McConniel clocked a personal record time of 4 minutes, 31.16 seconds to finish fourth in the 1-mile run.  Logan Recoy followed with a fifth-place finish in 4:42.58, Benjamin Strunk sixth in 4:51.05, and Jonah Thiele seventh in 4:51.12.

McConniel, Jelen, Strunk, and Thiele closed the day with the 4 x 400-meter relay, finishing fourth with a time of 3:51.52.

Dakota State returns to Seward next weekend for the two-day Concordia Track & Field Classic.  The meet starts next Friday at 2:15 p.m. with the multi-events.
