SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Host-team Dordt (Iowa) erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, handing Dakota State (S.D.) a 12-1 setback in five innings Friday evening in the second game of the American State Bank Sports Complex dome tournament.
The Trojans move to 1-1 on the season, while Dordt of the Great Plains Athletic Conference improves to 8-1.

How It Happened
Dordt wasted no time in the opening frame, sending 15 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs on five hits, five walks, and one Dakota State error.
Lauren Steenstra started the rally with a two-run triple to score Rylee Yager and Annabelle Hensley. Â Peyton Whipple followed later with a three-run double, and Tera Lynn Price capped the inning with a two-run home run to right field.
The Defenders added another run on bases loaded walk and an RBI ground out to take a commanding 10-0 lead after one inning.
Dakota State got on the board in the top of the third frame.
Ally Morrissey singled and later scored on
Hannah McFarland's RBI single to center field to cut the deficit to 10-1.
Dordt answered with two more runs in the fourth inning. Sierra Pirkey delivered a sacrifice fly, and Price tripled home a run to extend the margin to 12-1.

Dordt collected seven hits and drew seven walks:
- Tera Lynn Price went 2-for-3 with a home run, triple, and three RBIs
- Lauren Steenstra drove in three runs, including a two-run triple
- Peyton Whipple added a three-run double
- Rylee Yager stole three bases and scored twice
In the Circle
Makenna McGee (L, 0-1) took the loss for Dakota State after tossing the first out in the game.
Mason Usselman provided 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits.
Chloe Kreuz (W, 2-0) earned the win for Dordt, tossing a complete-game five-inning effort. She allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Dakota State continues their action on the second day of the dome preseason tournament Saturday afternoon. The Trojans face Waldorf (Iowa) at 1 p.m. and close the tournament with a contest versus No. 17 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) at 5 p.m.
