YANKTON, S.D. and BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) won three field events titles Friday afternoon at the Mount Marty (S.D.) Last Chance meet at Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse. The Trojans also hit personal record times at the NCAA Division I meet, the South Dakota State Indoor Classic at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
DSU dominated the throwing events, highlighting four athletes placing in the top four.
Oliver Tordsen won the title after tossing 17.30 meters (56 feet, 9.25 inches).
Zachary Haugen followed with a runner-up honor with 17.19 meters mark (56 feet, 4.75 inches).
Tarin Bingham hit a personal record 16.41 meters (53 feet, 10.25 inches) to earn a third-place finish. Luke Broowicz was fourth after throwing 15.46 meters (50 feet, 8.75 inches).
Lukus Mentele posted his season best 15.65 meters mark (51 feet, 4.25 inches) to win the shot-put title for Dakota State.
Dylan Johansen earned a runner-up finish after throwing a personal best 15.34 meters (50 feet, 4 inches). Tordsen was third with 15.20 meters toss (49 feet, 10.5 inches).
Keegan Hensley was seventh after tossing 13.04 meters (42 feet, 9.5 inches), followed by
Kolter Simon eighth with 12.54 meters throw (41 feet, 1.75 inches).
Tysen Grinde captured the long jump title for the Trojans, leaping 6.58 meters (21 feet, 7.25 inches).
Talon George was fifth after jumping 6.20 meters (20 feet, 4.25 inches).
Grinde posted a personal record 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3.25 inches) clearance in the pole vault, finishing fourth. His pole vault mark is the fifth best in DSU men's indoor track & field school record book.
Miles Eide was eighth with a personal best 3.60 meters clearance (11 feet, 9.75 inches).
Brock Krueger led Dakota State with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3.25 inches). Dawson was third with 1.81 meters mark (5 feet, 11.25 inches), followed by Simon fourth with 1.76 meters mark (5 feet, 9.25 inches).
Dakota State had nine track athletes on the first day of the SDSU Indoor Classic, featuring athletes from all collegiate levels from NCAA Division I to NAIA schools.
Tyler Nicke clocked a personal record time of 1 minute, 54.68 seconds in the 800-meter run. He joined the DSU men's indoor track & field school record Top 10 in 800-meter run as the 10
th fastest time.
Logan Recoy added a career best time of 1:55.96, followed by
Franklin Johns with a time of 1 minute, 56.66 seconds.
A pair of runners posted personal record times in the 3000-meter run, led by
Holden Jelen in 9:22.49.
David Brock added a personal record time of 10:17.43.
Reese Henrie also finished the race in 10:22.79.
Finley McConniel registered a time of 16 minutes, 12.18 seconds in the 5000-meter run for Dakota State. Benjamin Struck finished with a time of 16:36.98, followed by
Joshua Tucker in 17:08.93.
Dakota State concludes their indoor track & field schedule Saturday on the second day of the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings.
