Trojans prepare for inaugural Frontier Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend

DSU hosts two-day conference meet at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex Saturday & Sunday

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University women's and men's indoor track & field teams prepare the inaugural Frontier Conference Championships Saturday and Sunday.  Dakota State is the host for the two-day indoor track & field conference meet at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D., on the campus of South Dakota State University (1447 Jackrabbit Ave.).

The first day of the conference meet starts on Saturday at 5 p.m. and continues Sunday at 11 a.m.  The awards presentation will be held after the conclusion of the conference meet.  This is the final opportunity for athletes to produce national qualifying marks for the upcoming NAIA national meet on March 5-7.

  • Dakota State (S.D.) holds a slim lead over Montana Tech after the pentathlon, tallying 13 points.  The Orediggers scored 12 points in the pentathlon, followed by Carroll (Mont.) third with seven points, Dickinson State (N.D.) fourth with six points, and Valley City State (N.D.) fifth with one point.
  • Amelie Steins scored a school record 3,319 points to finish second in the Frontier Conference pentathlon.  She scored those points from the 2026 Concordia (Neb.) Track & field Classic on Jan. 30.
  • Casey Olson was fourth with a career best, 3,196 points, scored from the same meet as Steins.

  • Dakota State is tied with Dickinson State for second in the Frontier Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field team standings with nine points.
  • Tysen Grinde finished second after scoring an adjusted score of 5,029 points from the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational and Multi's on Jan. 16-17.
  • Miles Eide added eighth place with 3,951 points in the Concordia Track & Field Classic on Jan. 30-31.
  • Carroll holds the lead after the heptathlon with 16 points.Montana Tech is fourth with five points.

  • The two-day conference meet kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. with the men's long jump, women's weight throw, and women's pole vault.  The women's long jump and the men's weight throw will follow at 7 p.m.
  • The running events on Saturday start at 5 p.m. with the 5000-meter run, followed by 60-meter hurdles prelims, 60-meter dash prelims, 4 x 800-meter relay, and the 400-meter dash.
  • The Frontier Conference meet continues Sunday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. with the men's triple jump, women's high jump, men's pole vault, and women's shot put.The field events conclude at 1 p.m. with the women's triple jump, men's high jump, and men's shot put.
  • The running events will begin at 12 p.m. with the 1-mile run and wrap up at 3 p.m. with the 4 x 400-meter relay.
  • There will be an awards ceremony after the conclusion of the conference meet.
  • Individual events scoring is set at 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 with the top eight place finishers, while the relay events will be scored 10-8-6-4-2-1 for top six relays place finishers. The awards presentation will be held at the conclusion of the conference meet on Sunday afternoon.
  • The three-day NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Gainesville, Fla., for the second straight year.The dates are set for March 5-7.
