BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 2026 Frontier Men's Indoor Track & Field Conference Championships at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex are set to deliver one of the most tightly contested meets in the league's inaugural indoor conference meet. Six events were scored toward the men's indoor track & field conference team standings.
Carroll (Mont.) holds a narrow edge with 44 points ahead of Dakota State's (S.D.) 42 points, with Bismarck State (N.D.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) tied at third with 34 points. Montana Tech is fifth with 28 points, followed by Rocky Mountain (Mont.) sixth with 23 points.
The top eight individual events and top six relays place finishers are scored toward to the team standings.
The day kicked off with
Trevor Heinz placing fifth in the long jump, leaping 6.63 meters (21 feet, 9 inches).
Tysen Grinde added 6.27 meters (20 feet, 7 inches).
Tanner Drietz recorded 5.94 meters leap (19 feet, 6 inches) and
Talon George with 5.91 meters mark (19 feet, 4.75 inches).
Dakota State scored 19 points in the weight throw, highlighted with Zachary Haughen with a personal record and national qualifying standard of 17.92 meters (58 feet, 9.5 inches) for place second (fourth best in school history).
Tarin Bingham also added a national qualifying standard and personal record of 17.85 meters (58 feet, 6.75 inches) to finish third (fifth best in school history), followed by
Oliver Tordsen with a personal best 17.72 meters (58 feet, 1.75 inches) to place fourth (sixth best mark in school history).
Luke Borowicz tossed 14.98 meters (49 feet, 1.75 inches) in the weight throw for DSU.
The running events kicked off with the 5000-meter run, led by
Joshua Tucker with a season best time of 15:53.45.
Benjamin Strunk also added a season best time of 16:36.35.
Jonah Thiele registered a season best 17:12.78.
Grinde posted a personal record 8.78 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, placing sixth in the prelims.
Miles Eide finished with a time of 9.31 seconds, followed by
Bergen Irey (personal record) and
Caden Gortmaker (season best) each with 9.65 seconds. Grinde will run in the 60-meter hurdles finals Sunday.
Jagger Lombard led the Trojans in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.03 seconds, the third fastest runner in the prelims.
Lukas Bennett was ninth in 7.12 seconds, followed by George with a personal record time of 7.17 seconds.
James Burke finished in 7.21 seconds.
The members of
Franklin Johns,
Logan Recoy,
Tyler Nicke, and
Mohamed Muse earned a runner up in the 4 x 800-meter relay. The team posted a season best time of 7 minutes, 48.36 seconds, which is also the NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying time.
The running events closed with the 400-meter dash, led by Johns with a sixth-place finish in 50.59 seconds for DSU.
Weston Frangenberg added 53.14 seconds, followed by
Aaron Van Hemert in 53.25 seconds.
