Trojans win pitcher’s duel over Pirates in Cajun Collision

Carroll highlights Dakota State with complete game and 10 strikeouts in his first career collegiate start

February 7, 2026

STERLINGTON, La. – Dakota State (S.D.) earned a 2-1 victory over Park (Mo.) to kick off the second day of the Cajun Collision at Sterlington Sports Complex Saturday morning.  The Trojans highlighted with a dominant pitching performance from right-hander Ryland Carroll in his first career collegiate baseball start and timely late-game hitting.

Dakota State handed the Pirates their first setback of the season, with both teams holding an overall record of 2-1 before their final preseason tournament games Saturday afternoon.  Park went 2-0 record on the first day, including a victory over NAIA's nationally ranked Mid-America Christian (Okla.) and Hastings (Neb.).

How it happened

Dakota State struck first in the third inning. After Aidan Perry reached on a walk and Camaron Haller advanced into scoring position, Cameron DeMaria reached on an error by Park, allowing catcher's courtesy runner Quintin Tietz to score an unearned run for a 1-0 lead.

Park answered in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jackson Marrero singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and later scored on an infield error to tie the game 1-1.

The Trojans delivered the decisive run in the seventh. Connor Raney singled and advanced into scoring position before Perry moved him to third after a fly out. DeMaria then came through with a clutch RBI single to center field, scoring Raney and giving Dakota State a 2-1 advantage.

Carroll closed the door in the bottom half, finishing off a complete-game performance to secure the victory.
