BRANSON, Mo. – Dakota State(S.D.) used timely hitting and strong pitching to defeat Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) 4–1 on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference softball matchup at the Stars & Stripes Spring Break event. The Trojans produced their third straight victory, the first time since the 2022-23 season that DSU had won three consecutive games.
Dakota State improved to 5-8 overall, while the Pioneers fell to 0-17.
How it happened
Dakota State collected seven hits and scored in three different innings, while pitchers
Grace Kitterman and
Maycee Bricker combined to hold Crowley's Ridge to one run on six hits.
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings before the Trojans broke through in the third.
Lara Dolezal drew a walk, stole second, and moved to third on a fly out before
Katie Hansen drove her home with an RBI groundout to shortstop to give Dakota State a 1–0 lead.
Dakota State extended its advantage in the fifth inning. Dolezal started the rally with a double to left center, and Hansen followed by blasting a two-run home run to left field, pushing the Trojans ahead 3–0.
The Trojans added an insurance run in the sixth inning. After
Alexia Hayden doubled to center field,
Julia Maldonado delivered an RBI double down the right-field line to make the score 4–0.
Crowley's Ridge got on the board in the seventh inning when Lilly Wessel hit a solo home run to left-center field. The Pioneers later put two runners on base, but Bricker entered in relief and struck out the final two batters to secure the victory and earn the save.
