FAYETTE, Mo. – Two Dakota State (S.D.) men's throwers produced the NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying marks Saturday in their outdoor track & field season opener at Central Methodist (Mo.) Open. The outdoor track & field track meet was held at Davis Field – William L. Hariston Field.
The Trojans dominated the throwing events, winning three different titles by three different throwers.
Oliver Tordsen won the discus title in his collegiate outdoor track & field debut with the NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying mark of 50.87 meters (166 feet, 11 inches). His mark is the third best in the DSU men's outdoor track & field school record book and third best in the NAIA.
Lukus Mentele added a runner-up finish in the discus with 42.73 meters mark (140 feet, 2 inches).
Zachary Haugen was fifth with 40.73 meters toss (133 feet, 7 inches).
Haugen won the hammer throw title after tossing 55.40 meters (181 feet, 9 inches). His mark is currently fourth best in the NAIA. Mentele earned third place with 50.59 meters mark (166 feet), followed by Tordsen with a fourth-place finish after tossing 49.55 meters (162 feet, 7 inches).
Trenton Moran registered a toss of 41.70 meters (136 feet, 10 inches).
Mentele won the shot-put title after tossing 15.26 meters (50 feet, .75 inches) for DSU. Tordsen added third place with 14.27 meters (48 feet, 3.5 inches), followed by Moran fourth with 14.23 meters mark (46 feet, 8.25 inches).
Lukas Bennett finished fifth in the 100-meter dash after clocking a time of 10.79 seconds.
Talon George added a time of 11.34 seconds.
Bennett also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 21.91 seconds, while George finished with a time of 23.39 seconds.
Tysen Grinde cleared the height of 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3.25 inches) in the pole vault for the Trojans. He also leaped 5.83 meters (19 feet, 1.5 inches) in the long jump.
Dakota State continues their action in the two-day Wildcat Classic next weekend in Wayne, Neb., hosted by NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.).
