Amelie Steins of Dakota State (S.D.) received the inaugural Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week, the conference office announced their first edition of the outdoor track & field weekly honors Tuesday afternoon.
Steins was part of three new Dakota State (S.D.) school records in their season opener at Central Methodist (Mo.) Opener on March 21. She established a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.46 seconds, placing second in the event. The previous DSU record holder was held by Fane Sauvakacolo with a time of 14.65 seconds in 2023.
Steins was also on the 4 x 400-meter relay team with
Anna Schneider,
Molli Thornton, and
RayLee Wallis that broke a new school record with a time of 3:56.23, placing second in the race. That same relay team members set the previous school record last season with a time of 3:57.27.
Steins also produced NAIA B' provisional qualifying mark of 5.78 meters (18 feet, 11.75 inches), which is also a new school record for Dakota State. She broke the previous record holder by Jayna Goodroad with 5.62 meters (18 feet, 5 inches) in 2007. Steins' long jump mark is currently third best in the NAIA.
Amelie is a junior integrated biology major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State continues their busy outdoor track & field schedule Friday and Saturday as they head to Wayne, Neb., for the two-day Wildcat Open, hosted by NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.).
