MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) was able to put together another 'last-minute' home meet to their 2026 outdoor track & field schedule, taking advantage of warmer temperatures and favorable track weather Monday afternoon at Dan Beacom Track & Field. NCAA Division I South Dakota State competed with DSU in the Steinhorn/Beacom Twilight meet. DSU collected three first places in the meet.
Oliver Tordsen won the shot-put title after tossing 15.80 meters (51 feet, 10 inches) for the Trojans.
Lukus Mentele followed up with a runner-up honor with 15.32 meters (50 feet, 3.25 inches) toss. Dylan Johnasen recorded 14.90 meters (48 feet, 10.75 inches),
Trenton Moran with 14.18 meters (46 feet, 6.25 inches), and
Keegan Hensley with 13.56 meters (44 feet, 6 inches).
Zachary Haugen was second in the hammer throw after producing 53.53 meters (175 feet, 7 inches), followed by Mentele third with 51.72 meters toss (169 feet, 8 inches).
Luke Borowicz threw 51.14 meters (167 feet, 9 inches),
Tarin Bingham with 50.60 meters toss (166 feet), Johansen 48.82 meters (160 feet, 2 inches), Tordsen 45.25 meters (148 feet, 5 inches), and Moran 45.05 meters (147 feet, 9 inches).
Tordsen led the Trojans with 50.97 meters (167 feet, 2 inches) for a third-place finish in the discus. Mentele added 43.52 meters (142 feet, 9 inches), followed by Borowicz 40.84 meters (134 feet), and Hensley 38.05 meters (124 feet, 10 inches).
Kolter Simon registered a personal record 45.08 meters (147 feet, 10 inches) to earn a runner-up finish in the javelin throw.
Xander Sheehan earned a season best 44.91 meters (147 feet, 4 inches). Simon was also third in the triple jump with 11.86 meters mark (38 feet, 11 inches).
Brock Krueger cleared the high jump of 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) to collect a runner-up honor for DSU.
Talon George,
Bergen Irey, and
Dawson Miller each cleared the height of 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches).
Irey cleared the height of 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1.75 inches) in the pole vault.
Rasmus Loken made a clearance of 3.25 inches (10 feet, 8 inches), while George produced a personal record 2.95 meters (9 feet, 8 inches).
Tanner Drietz leaped 6.22 meters (20 feet, 5 inches) to take second place in the long jump for the Trojans.
Daniel Agyeman added 5.88 meters (19 feet, 3.5 inches) to place third.
Franklin Johns posted a personal record time of 49.67 seconds in the 400-meter dash, finishing second.
Mohamed Muse added 49.94 seconds to place third.
Lukas Bennett finished with a time of 50.60 seconds, while
Weston Frangenberg registered a personal record 52.07 seconds.
Ben Witt finished the race in 52.65 seconds.
Jagger Lombard led Dakota State with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.85 seconds.
James Burke finished with a time of 11.41 seconds,
Connor Schmidt in 11.87 seconds, and
Payton Anderson in 11.96 seconds.
Burke clocked a season best time of 23.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash for DSU. Schmidt recorded a time of 23.98 seconds, which was his personal record time.
Tyler Nicke captured the 800-meter run title with a time of 1 minute, 55.98 seconds.
Cody Farland was second in 1:56.77, followed by
Dawson Miller with a fourth-place finish in 2:05.40.
Blake Schmiedt finished the race in 2:10.35 and
David Brock in 2:12.01.
DSU closed the meet with a pair of 4 x 400-meter relay teams. The relay team of Bennett, Johns, Witt, and Frangenberg won the title in 3:26.67. Lombard, Miller, Anderson, and Irey registered at a time of 3:32.05.
Dakota State is scheduled to compete in the NCAA Division I University of South Dakota Early Bird Invitational Friday and Saturday in Vermillion, S.D. Stay tuned to DSU Athletics website on dsuathletics.com to a potential schedule update due to poor weather forecast in the Midwest region this week.
DSU also competes in the Sioux City Relays next Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa, hosted by Morningside (Iowa) at Olsen Stadium.
