GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Dakota State (S.D.) athletes were in action on the second day of the 61
st annual NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The three-day indoor track & field national meet is being held at Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe.
Tysen Grinde continued his action in the heptathlon, kicking off Friday with a time of 8.98 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. He collected 750 points in the 60-meter hurdles.
Grinde added 775 points in the pole vault after clearing his personal best 4.55 meters mark (14 feet, 11 inches). His pole vault mark tied the DSU school record with former NAIA All-America multi-event athlete Treshawn Roberts in 2024.
He closed the heptathlon with a time of 2 minutes, 48.59 seconds in the grueling 1000-meter run. He earned 780 points in the event.
Overall, Grinde piled up a career best of 5,181 points where he finished sixth overall. He was two points shy behind fifth place with 5,183 points by Will Jarman of Indiana Tech. As a result, Grinde earned his second NAIA All-America status in the same national meet for the Trojans, marking the fifth consecutive year that DSU had an All-America heptathlon athlete (since 2022).
Grinde's heptathlon points are the second most in the DSU men's indoor track & field school history.
Three men's weight throwers competed for Dakota State, which they made their first appearance at the national indoor track & field national meet.
Oliver Tordsen led the Trojans with 17.77 meters (58 feet. 3.75 inches on the first attempt. He followed up with 17.26 meters mark (56 feet, 7.5 inches) on the second attempt and fouled on the final attempt. He finished 15
th overall.
Tarin Bingham earned an 18
th place finish for Dakota State. He threw 17.71 meters on hist toss (58 feet, 1.25 inches) and 17.36 meters (56 feet, 11.5 inches) on the second attempt. Bingham matched his first throw's mark on the third attempt.
Zachary Haugen threw 15.72 meters (51 feet, 7 inches) on his first and fouled on his next two attempts.
Dakota State is 19
th in the team standings with 5.5 points.
The Trojans wrap up the indoor track & field season Saturday afternoon as Tordsen compete in the shot put at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)/1:30 p.m. (Central Time). The championship ceremonies are set for 12 p.m. (ET)/11 a.m. (CT).
