DSU men’s squad produces season best marks at 61st annual Sioux City Relays

Bennett was the top runner in 100-meter dash; Tordsen captured discus title Friday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) men's outdoor track & field squad produced season best marks Friday at the 61st annual Sioux City Relays at Olsen Stadium, hosted by Olsen Stadium on the campus of Morningside (Iowa).  Local NAIA and NCAA schools competed in the outdoor track & field meet.

Oliver Tordsen won the discus title with the NAIA 'A' automatic mark of 53.50 meters (175 feet, 6 inches) for the Trojans.  He already produced a school record in discus last Wednesday at USD Snooze Button Classic.  Zachary Haugen posted a season best 44.25 meters (145 feet, 2 inches) to place ninth.  Luke Borowicz threw 40.56 meters (133 feet, 1 inch).

Dylan Johansen earned a season best 15.42 meters mark (50 feet, 7.25 inches) to finish fourth in the shot-put for DSU.  Tordsen followed up with a fifth-place finish with 15.31 meters (50 feet, 2.75 inches).  Trenton Moran registered a season best 14.71 meters (48 feet, 3.25 inches) and Keegan Hensley with 13.03 meters toss (42 feet, 9 inches).

Haugen led Dakota State with fifth-place finish with 53.99 meters (177 feet, 1 inch) in the hammer throw.  Tordsen.  Tordsen was ninth after throwing 48.39 meters (158 feet, 9 inches), followed by Johansen with 47.16 meters (154 feet, 8 inches), Borowicz with 45.96 meters (150 feet, 9 inches), Tarin Bingham with 45 meters (147 feet, 7 inches), Moran with 43.93 meters (144 feet, 1 inch), and Hensley with 41.45 meters (136 feet).

Bergen Irey cleared the height of 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches) in the high jump for DSU.  Tysen Grinde cleared the height of 4.32 meters (14 feet, 2 inches) in the pole vault, placing eighth.

Lukas Bennett was the top runner in the 100-meter dash prelims, clocking a time of 10.69 seconds.

Cody Farland paced the Trojans with a season best time of 1 minute, 54.31 seconds in the 800-meter run.  Tyler Nicke also added a season best time of 1:55.58.  Logan Recoy followed with a time of 1:58.74 and Holden Jelen in 2:01.74.  Blake Schmiedt posted the season's best time of 2:06.93.

Franklin Johns registered a time of 50.43 seconds in the 400-meter dash for Dakota State.  Bennett added a season best time of 50.55 seconds.  Ben Witt finished the race in 54.04 seconds, followed by Payton Anderson with a time of 54.47 seconds.

Dakota State heads to Orange City, Iowa, next weekend for the two-day Red Raider Open, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) at De Valois Stadium.  The Trojans will also send their multi-events athletes to the site of this year's Frontier Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships next Sunday (April 19) and next Monday (April 20) at Biesiot Activities Center in Dickinson, N.D.

The two-day decathlon event starts at 3:10 p.m. (Central Time)/2:10 p.m. (Mountain Time) on April 19 and 10 a.m. (CT)/9 a.m. (MT) on April 20.
