ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Dakota State competed in two different throwing events Friday on the second day of the Red Raider Open, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) at De Valois Stadium. The Trojans did not compete in the running events due to high winds.
Oliver Tordsen, who was named to the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week earlier this week, earned his second discus title this season. He threw the NAIA 'B' mark of 50.54 meters (165 feet, 9 inches) to win the title.
Lukus Mentele followed up with a third-place finish with 43.36 meters (142 feet, 3 inches).
Trenton Moran threw a personal record 41.89 meters (137 feet, 5 inches) to place sixth for the Trojans.
Dylan Johansen added a personal best 41.56 meters (136 feet, 4 inches) to finish seventh.
Keegan Hensley followed with an eighth-place finish after throwing 41.14 meters (134 feet, 11 inches).
Luke Borowicz threw 34.85 meters (114 feet, 4 inches).
Tordsen added a third-place finish in the shot-put, tossing 15.18 meters (49 feet, 9.75 inches). Johansen was fifth with 15.08 meters (49 feet, 5.75 inches), followed by Mentele with 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1.5 inches). Moran threw 13.80 meters (45 feet, 3.5 inches) and Hensley 13.16 meters (43 feet, 2.25 inches).
Dakota State prepares for their busiest schedule of the season, competing in four different meets next week. The Trojans begin the week on Sunday and Monday as the decathlon athletes compete in the Frontier Conference Multi-Events Championships at Biesiot Activities Center in Dickinson, N.D.
DSU then will compete in the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight meet on Wednesday evening. The Trojans will be taking selected members to the prestigious Drake Relays, scheduled for Thursday through next Saturday at Bulldog Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dakota State is also scheduled to compete in the Vikings Classic next Friday in Des Moines.
