DICKINSON, N.D. – Four Dakota State (S.D.) decathlon athletes competed on the first day of the 2026 Frontier Conference Outdoor Track & Field Multi-Events Championships Sunday afternoon at Biesiot Activities Center, hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.). Two Trojans are placed in the top eight in the decathlon standings after day one.
A total of 17 athletes is competing in the men's multi-events competition from six different schools, including Dakota State, Dickinson State, Carroll (Mont.), Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain (Mont.), and Valley City State (N.D.).
The decathlon kicked off with the 100-meter dash, paced by
Talon George with the second fastest time in the field in his decathlon debut. He finished with a time of 11.25 seconds and collected 806 points.
Tysen Grinde added 11.62 seconds for 728 points, followed by
Bergen Irey with a time of 12.43 seconds for 569 points.
Miles Eide also made his decathlon debut with a time of 12.55 seconds with 547 points.
The second event of the decathlon was the long jump. Grinde leaped a season best 6.63 meters (21 feet, 9 inches) 727 points, the third best long jump in the field. Geroge added 6.15 meters (20 feet, 2.25 inches) for 619 points, Eide with 5.56 meters mark for 494 points, and Irey with 5.36 meters leap (453 points).
George led the Trojans in the shot put, posting the second-best mark in the field with 12.51 meters toss (41 feet, .5 inches) for 637 points. Grinde recorded 11.09 meters mark (36 feet, 4.75 inches) for 551 points. Eide tossed 8.87 meters (29 feet, 1.25 inches) for 418 points and Irey with 8.49 meters mark (27 feet, 10.25 inches) for 395 points.
The fourth event of the decathlon was the high jump, highlighted by Grinde with the top mark. He cleared the height of 2.02 meters (6 feet, 7.5 inches) for 822 points. Irey tied his season best mark of 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches) for 636 points. Eide also received 636 points in the high jump after hitting his personal record 1.81 meters clearance. George recorded 560 points after clearing the height of 5 feet, 7.75 inches.
The final decathlon event on the first day was the 400-meter dash. Grinde posted his career best time of 51.78 seconds for 734 points. Eide added a time of 57.34 seconds for 508 points, George 57.46 points for 504 points, and Irey 57.79 seconds for 491 points.
Carson Krack of Carroll leads the decathlon standings after day one with 3,701 points. Grinde is second in the standings with 3,562 points. George is sixth with 3,126 points. Eide collected 2,603 points after the first day, followed by Irey with 2,544 points.
There are five events remaining in the decathlon, starting with the 110-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. (Central Time)/9 a.m. (Mountain Time). After the 110-meter hurdles, they will compete in the discus, pole vault, javelin, and conclude with the 1500-meter run.
