DSU gets ready for inaugural Frontier Conference Softball Postseason tournament in Dickinson, N.D.

Trojans face top-seed Dickinson State (N.D.) to open tournament Thursday; tournament runs through Sunday

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) (14-34 overall record, 6-22 Frontier Conference record) prepares for the inaugural Frontier Conference softball postseason tournament Thursday, taking on the top-seeded Dickinson State (N.D.) (36-12 overall record, 24-4 Frontier record).  The game is set for 1:30 p.m. (Central Time)/12:30 p.m. (Mountain Time).

All eight teams will compete in the double elimination format at Bravera Field (603 13th Ave.) on Sanford Sports Complex on Thursday, April 30 through Sunday, May 3, hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.).

The tournament opens at 11 a.m. (CT)/10 a.m. (MT) with No. 4 seed Bismarck State (N.D.) (18-30 overall record, 13-14 Frontier) taking on No. 5 seed Carroll (Mont.) (18-18 overall record, 13-13 Frontier). 

Thursday's second session begins at 4 p.m. (CT)/3 p.m. (MT) with No. 2 seed Providence (Mont.) (27-22 overall record, 19-9 Frontier) playing No. 7 seed Mayville State (N.D.) (15-30 overall record, 9-18 Frontier).  The first day of the postseason tournament wraps up with No. 3 seed Valley City State (N.D.) (25-24 overall record, 15-13 Frontier) taking on No. 6 seed Bellevue (Neb.) (20-27, 10-16 Frontier).

The loser's out and winner's bracket games continue Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2.  There are six games scheduled on Friday with game times (in Mountain Time) at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m.

There will be three games on Saturday, starting with two undefeated teams in the tournament facing each other at 11 a.m. (MT).  Two losers' out games will follow at 1 p.m. (MT) and 3 p.m. (MT), vying for a spot for the championship game.

The championship game is set for Sunday, May 3, at 1 p.m. (CT)/12 p.m. (MT), with the second championship game, if necessary, at 3 p.m. (CT)/2 p.m. (MT) (if Winner of Game 11 suffers their first defeat of the tournament).

Monday, May 4, is designated as a rain date.

The winner will receive the Frontier Conference's automatic bid to the NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Round on May 11-13 at campus sites announced by the national office.
