MADISON, S.D. – Freshman
Oliver Tordsen shattered a new Dakota State (S.D.) men's discus school record Wednesday at the NCAA Division I University of South Dakota Snooze Button Classic, held at Lillibridge Track Complex. Local NAIA and NCAA schools competed in the meet.
Tordsen threw his personal record 55.33 meters (181 feet, 6 inches) to win the discus title for the Trojans. He broke the previous school record mark of 54.57 meters (178 feet, 8 inches) by his older brother, Connor Tordsen who was a national champion in discus at Dakota State.
Zachary Haugen added 43.26 meters mark (141 feet, 11 inches), followed by
Luke Borowicz with 37.10 meters mark (121 feet, 8 inches).
Tordsen also led the Trojans with a fifth-place finish in the shot put with 14.98 meters (49 feet, 1.5 inches).
Dylan Johansen was eighth with 14.29 meters (46 feet, 10.75 inches) and
Trenton Moran tossed 13.51 meters (44 feet, 4 inches).
Zachary Haugen was fifth in the hammer throw after throwing 54.40 meters (178 feet, 5 inches). Other hammer throwers results included
Tarin Bingham – 45.58 meters (149 feet, 6 inches), Johansen – 44.80 meters (146 feet, 11 inches), Moran – 44.11 meters (144 feet, 8 inches), Borowicz – 43.84 meters (143 feet, 10 inches), and Tordsen – 43.37 meters (142 feet, 3 inches).
Tysen Grinde hit his season best 4.41 meters (14 feet, 5.5 inches) clearance in the pole vault for DSU.
Tanner Drietz leaped 11.85 meters (38 feet, 10.5 inches) in the triple jump.
James Burke,
Jagger Lombard,
Talon George, and
Lukas Bennett teamed up for a sixth-place finish in the 4 x 100-meter relay in 42.57 seconds.
Four Trojans produced personal or season best times in the 1500-meters.
Holden Jelen hit a personal record time of 4 minutes, 24.83 seconds, followed by
David Brock with a personal record time of 4:27.31.
Kaiden Akey had a season best time of 5:10.21 and
Hunter Dimick with a season best 6:02.56.
Bergen Irey clocked a personal record time of 17.53 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles for the Trojans.
Bennett placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 10.89 seconds. Lombard finished the race in 11.03 seconds, followed by
Weston Frangenberg with a personal record time of 11.28 seconds. Burke registered a time of 11.34 seconds,
Ben Witt in 11.88 seconds, and
Connor Schmidt in 12.05 seconds.
Bennett finished with a time of 22.56 seconds in the 200-meter dash, followed by Burke in 23.19 seconds. Witt finished with a time of 23.97 seconds and Schmidt in 24.90 seconds.
Dawson Miller posted his season's best time in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:03.18.
Franklin Johns registered a time of 1:00.02 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Blake Schmiedt led DSU with a time of 10:47.99 to place sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, followed by
Jonah Thiele seventh in 10:58.23.
The Trojans closed the day with three runners in the 5000-meters, led by
Joshua Tucker with a fifth-place finish in 15:51.73.
Finley McConniel added a time of 16:26.85 and Benjamin Struck in 16:41.28.
Dakota State continues their outdoor track & field action Friday in the two-day Sioux City Relays. The first event is set for 10:30 a.m. at Olsen Stadium on the campus of Morningside (Iowa).
