DICKINSON, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) finished fourth in the 2026 Frontier Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on a windy Sunday at Biesiot Activities Center. The two-day conference meet is being hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.), wrapping up the final Frontier Conference championship event for the 2025-26 academic year.
The Trojans scored 124 points in the team standings. Montana Tech overtook Dickinson State's lead in the final event, as the Orediggers edged the Blue Hawks 154-150 to claim the team title.
Carroll (Mont.) was third with 142.5 points. Bismarck State (N.D.) was fifth with 97 points, followed by Rocky Mountain (Mont.) sixth (68 points), Valley City State (N.D.) seventh (36.5 points), Bellevue (Neb.) eighth (30 points), Montana Western ninth (16) points, Providence (Mont.) 10
th (14 points), and MSU-Northern 11
th (1 point).
Sunday kicked off with DSU's
Brock Krueger earning second place in the triple jump after leaping 14.30 meters (46 feet, 11 inches) mark.
Tanner Drietz was seventh with 13 meters mark (42 feet, 8 inches), followed by
Trevor Heinz eighth with 12.88 meters (42 feet, 3.25 inches).
Dakota State claimed three field event titles, led by
Tysen Grinde in the high jump. He cleared the high jump of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches) on his first attempt. Krueger tied his personal best 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3.25 inches) mark to place sixth.
Dawson Miller also earned his season best 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) and
Miles Eide with his tied personal best mark of 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches).
Oliver Tordsen captured the discus title after tossing 49.36 meters (161 feet, 11 inches) for the Trojans. Other discus throwers results included
Lukus Mentele – 37.71 meters (123 feet, 8 inches),
Keegan Hensley – 37.20 meters (122 feet), and
Zachary Haugen – 36.87 meters (120 feet, 11 inches).
Dylan Johansen hit his personal record 15.99 meters (52 feet, 5.5 inches) to win the shot-put title for Dakota State. Tordsen added a third-place finish with 15.68 meters mark (51 feet, 5.5 inches).
Trenton Moran was fifth with 15.61 meters mark (51 feet, 2.75 inches), and Mentele was eighth after tossing 15.28 meters (50 feet, 1.75 inches).
Holden Jelen clocked a personal record time of 4 minutes, 20.41 seconds in the 1500-meter run.
David Brock followed up with a time of 4:30.16 and Grayson Maden in 4:35.67.
James Burke,
Jagger Lombard,
Talon George, and
Lukas Bennett teamed up to a second-place finish in the 4 x 100-meter relay. They clocked a season best time of 41.60 seconds.
Blake Schmiedt led the Trojans with an eighth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:45.51.
Jonah Thiele followed up with a ninth-place finish in 11:04.66.
Bennett was fourth in the 100-meter dash final with a time of 10.23 seconds for DSU.
Franklin Johns won the 800-meter run title with his personal record time of 1 minute, 53.77 seconds.
Tyler Nicke was fourth after recording a time of 1:56.19, followed by
Cody Farland sixth with a time of 1:56.59.
Payton Anderson finished with a time of 1:03.34 in the 400-meter hurdles for the Trojans.
Lombard was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.08 seconds.
Ben Witt clocked a time of 22.62 seconds, followed by
Weston Frangenberg with a time of 23.01 seconds.
Joshua Tucker was ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16 minutes, 24.12 seconds.
Finley McConniel registered a time of 17:05.57, followed by
Benjamin Strunk in 17:09.83.
The Trojans closed the conference meet with a third-place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay. Lombard, Nicke, Witt, and Johns finished third with a time of 3 minutes, 23.05 seconds.
Dakota State returns home Wednesday for the
Buzz Stevenson Last Chance at Dan Beacom Track & Field. The first events are set for 2 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
