TUCSON, Ariz. – St. Francis (Ill.) limited Dakota State (S.D.) to four singles in the second game on the second day of the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Saturday at Kino Sports Complex. The Fighting Saints completed the series sweep of the Trojans with a 7-0 victory.
Dakota State fell to 1-7 overall record. St. Francis improved to 10-5 overall record.
The Trojans take a day off on Sunday and resume to action on Monday morning. DSU looks to halt their losing skid versus Northwestern (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference at Kino Sports Complex.
St. Francis (Ill.) 7, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL
- St. Francis scored five runs in the bottom second inning to open a 5-0 lead, highlighted by Brittany Osborn's 2-RBI single.
- The Fighting Saints added a run in the bottom third frame to extend their lead to 6-0.
- Dakota State was unable to produce a run in the top fourth inning, despite hitting three straight singles with two outs by Madison Aldendifer, Lia Chan, and Jacquelyn Folkers.
- Kaylie Sippel hit an RBI single in the bottom sixth to balloon USF's lead to 7-0.
- DSU was unable to score in the final inning, securing the victory for St. Francis.
- Aldendifer, Chan, Folkers, and Hannah Feser each recorded a single for Dakota State.
- Danielle Callahan, Sippel, and Madisen Tucker each had two hits for the Fighting Saints. Osborn added a single and two RBIs. Maddie Massaro had a hit and two walks.
- USF outhit DSU 10-4 in the game. Both teams committed two defensive errors.
- Xotchil Lopez (L, 0-2) recorded the setback after pitching three innings for Dakota State. She allowed six runs (two unearned) on five hits. Rosie Philop worked for three innings in relief, giving up a run on five hits.
- Hannah Vachon (W, 2-5) tossed a complete game victory for USF. She yielded four singles and recorded four strikeouts.
