Two DSU athletes named to 2023-24 CSC Academic All-America® Second Team

Farland and E. Slominski received academic honors from College Sports Communicators (CSC)

AUSTIN, Texas – Two Dakota State (S.D.) runners were selected to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) men's track & field/cross country Academic All-America® Second Team Wednesday, selected by CSC.
 
Cody Farland is a junior native from New Underwood, S.D.  He majors in cyber operations at Dakota State.  He earned two NAIA All-America honors during the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Brookings, S.D. 

Farland was a member of the NAIA All-American's 4 x 800-meter relay team (with Nolan Slominski, Curtis Johnson, and Evan Slominski) that finished third in the national indoor finals with a time of 7 minutes, 38.69 seconds.  The relay team established a school record time of 7:37.41 on the day prior to the national finals.

It was the first time since 2010 that the Trojans earned the NAIA Indoor Track 4 x 800-meter relay All-America honor (Andy Coy, Matt Fideler, Cody Foreman, and Tyler Van Peursem). 

Farland also earned the NAIA Indoor Track All-America in the 1-mile run for DSU.  After winning the first heat in the semifinals in 4:15.62, he produced a career best time of 4 minutes, 11.31 seconds to finish seventh in the race.  His time is the third fastest in the DSU men's indoor track & field school history in the 1-mile run.

He currently has three NAIA All-America status in his career at Dakota State (NAIA Outdoor Track All-America in 800-meter run in 2023).

Farland also ran in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships last fall after earning his third North Star Athletic Association All-Conference honor. 

He collected NSAA Indoor Track & Field All-Conference honors after winning the 800-meter and 1-mile runs at the 2024 conference meet.  He added the NSAA Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference this past spring, winning the 1500-meter run.

Farland had collected a total of 15 North Star All-Conference honors prior to the 2024-25 season.

E. Slominski graduated from Dakota State with his master's in cyber defense this past spring.  He is a native of Blair, Neb.  He earned his first NAIA All-America status at the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the 4 x 800-meter relay.

He ended his stellar running career at Dakota State at the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 4 x 800-meter relay, finishing 12th overall with a time of 7:39.75.

During the 2024 track season, E. Slominski collected three NSAA Indoor Track & Field All-Conference awards.  He was a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that won the title, as well as earning All-Conference in the 1-mile and 800-meter runs.  He collected a pair of conference relay titles at the NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, winning the 4 x 800-meter and 4 x 400-meter relays titles).

E. Slominski collected a total of 17 North Star Athletic Association All-Conference honors at DSU.

Farland and E. Slominski also received the NAIA and NSAA Scholar-Athletes awards for their academic success in the classroom.  They also were integral members of the Trojans' conference championships sweep in track & field (indoor and outdoor), their fifth team title in the previous six indoor track & field conference meets.  DSU also extended their program record fifth straight conference outdoor track & field title, most recently at the Dan Beacom Track Complex last May.

The NAIA Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with the handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
