DSU makes 2025-26 indoor track & field season debut Friday in Brookings

Dakota State (S.D.) heads to SJAC in Brookings for South Dakota State Holiday Open

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University indoor track & field teams make their 2025-26 season debut Friday afternoon as they head to Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.  The Trojans compete in the NCAA Division I South Dakota State Holiday Open, with the first event starting at 2:30 p.m.

Season Overview & Meets
  • The Trojans officially open their indoor season Friday at the South Dakota State Holiday Open in Brookings.
  • Their first month wraps up with the Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) Snow Tiger Invitational on Dec. 13 in Mitchell, closing their 2025 calendar year in track & field.
  • Dakota State will be sending five long distance runners to the NAIA Marathon Classic at BMW Dallas Marathon on Dec. 14.
  • After the break, DSU resumes competition in January with back-to-back meets: the Mount Marty Opener (Jan. 10), followed by the Mount Marty Invitational & Multi-Events (Jan. 16–17) in Yankton.
  • Late January includes a meet at Brookings again — the SDSU Thursday Night Special (Jan. 29) — before heading out to the Concordia (Neb.) Track & Field Classic (Jan. 30–31).
  • February brings a stretch of pivotal competitions: the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Meet (Feb. 7), the big-name Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational (also Feb. 7), then final regular-season meets: the South Dakota State Indoor Classic (Feb. 13–14) and Last Chance meet at Mount Marty (also Feb. 13).
  • The season's crescendo: DSU will host the Frontier Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 21–22 at Brookings.
  • For top performers, there's the postseason goal: the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships March 5–7 in Gainesville, Fla.
  • This year marks the first season under new head coach Alex Glover, assisted by a full staff including Taylor Hauge, Shandon Reitzell, D'Artist Williams, Treshawn Roberts, and grad assistants Zachary Haugen and Caleb Sayler.
2024-25 DSU Indoor Track & Field Season in Review
  • Dakota State competed in the final North Star Athletic Association indoor track & field conference meet.The Trojan men made history as the first four-peat indoor track & field conference champion in program history (previous record was three straight conference champions in the former South Dakota-Iowa Conference in 1996, 1997, and 1998).
  • Dakota State finished 15th overall as a team in last year's NAIA indoor track & field national meet with 15 points, highlighted by a pair of All-American honors by Chantz Minear in the heptathlon and the 60-meter hurdles.
  • The Trojan men's 4 x 800-meter relay of Evan Armstrong, Curtis Johnson, Franklin Johns, and Nolan Slominski earned the NAIA All-American status after pacing sixth in the national finals in 7 minutes, 45.21 seconds.It was the second straight year that DSU captured the 4 x 800-meter relay honors.
  • Tysen Grinde (heptathlon), Slominski (800-meter run), Lukus Mentele (shot put), and James McClain (shot put) also competed at the national meet.Grinde was just one place shy of producing NAIA All-America honor after placing ninth in the heptathlon.Slominski advanced to the national finals in the 800-meters, placing ninth in the finals.
  • DSU women finished second in the final NSAA conference indoor track & field meet with a new team conference meet record of 185 points.It was the second straight year and third time in the last four conference meets that the Trojans finished second.
  • The Trojan women's 4 x 800-meter relay team of Presli White, Lindsey Roth, Anna Schneider, and Kierra Miller competed in lats year's NAIA National Championship with a new school record time of 9 minutes, 33.48 seconds.
  • Kiana Mounga also competed in the weight throw, while RayLee Wallis ran in the 400-meter dash semifinals at the national indoor track & field meet for the Trojans last year.
