BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) produced their first national qualifying mark in their 2025-26 indoor track & field season debut Friday at Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The Trojans competed in the NCAA Division I meet, the South Dakota State Holiday Open which featured local NCAA and NAIA schools.
The Trojans also highlighted some of the marks on the school's Top 10 school record book.
Mohamed Muse captured the 600-meter run title with the NAIA 'B' provisional qualifying time of 1 minute, 20.15 seconds. He produced his career best 600-meters time, which is the third fastest in the DSU school record book.
Dawson Miller added a time of 1:24.24 to finish eighth for DSU.
Lukas Bennett and
Jagger Lombard were listed in the Trojan men's indoor track & field school record book in the 60-meter dash. Bennett kicked off the prelims with 6.91 seconds, tying for seventh fastest time in the school record book. Lombard added 6.98 seconds. Both Bennett and Lombard advanced to the 60-meter dash finals.

James Burke – 7.23 seconds,
Javon Newkirk – 7.50 seconds,
Connor Schmidt – 7.61 seconds,
Payton Anderson – 7.63 seconds, and
Bergen Irey – 7.87 seconds.
Lombard improved his time of 6.94 seconds to claim a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash finals. His time is the 9
th fastest in the school record book.
Lombard led the Trojans with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 22.54 seconds. Burke added a time of 23.56 seconds, followed by Newkirk in 24.10 seconds, and Schmidt in 24.59 seconds.
Bennett ran in the 200-meter dash championships, where he finished with a time of 22.34 seconds for Dakota State. He finished third in the race.
Lane Henrichs produced a career best time of 8 minutes, 55.29 seconds to earn a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter run for Dakota State.
Benjamin Strunk added a personal best time of 9:16.56.
Finley McConniel clocked a time of 9:30.24 in the race.
Evan Armstrong earned a fifth-place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:21.36.
Solomon Carter posted a time of 4:29.47 to finish eighth, followed by
Holden Jelen 10
th in 4:43.64.
Lucas Harr ran a time of 5:19.48 and
Hunter Dimick in 6:09.62.
Oliver Tordsen highlighted the Trojan throwing team with a pair of marks in the school record Top 10, making his season debut. He was fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.03 meters (55 feet, 10.5 inches), placing 7
th best toss in school history.
Zachary Haugen added a career best 15.64 meters (51 feet, 3.75 inches) toss.
Other DSU men's weight throw results included
Luke Borowicz – 15.50 meters – 50 feet, 10.25 inches;
Tarin Bingham – 15.49 meters – 50 feet, 10 inches (personal record);
Lukus Mentele – 14.89 meters – 48 feet, 10.25 inches (personal record);
Dylan Johansen – 14.52 meters – 47 feet, 7.75 inches (personal record), and
Keegan Hensley – 12.69 meters – 41 feet, 7.75 inches.
Tordsen added an eighth-place finish in the shot put with 14.99 meters toss (49 feet, 2.25 inches). His shot put is the 10
th best in DSU men's indoor track & field school history. Johansen added a ninth-place finish with a career best 14.86 meters toss (48 feet, 9 inches), followed by Mentele 10
th with 14.84 meters mark (48 feet, 8.25 inches). Hensley threw 13.60 meters (44 feet, 7.5 inches).
Weston Frangenberg registered a time of 52.78 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Mattix Hausman finished with a time of 55.04 seconds.
Franklin Johns registered a time of 1:57.78 seconds in the 800-meter run for DSU.
Tysen Grinde tied for fifth place in the high jump after clearing the mark of 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches). He also hit a personal record of 4.25 meters (13 feet, 11.25 inches) in the pole vault for the Trojans.
Rasmus Loken cleared the vault at 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5.5 inches). Askel Ehlers added 3.65 meters pole vault clearance.
Brock Krueger leaped to his career best 13.31 meters (43 feet, 8 inches) to place seventh in the triple jump for DSU.
Trevor Heinz recorded 6.50 meters (21 feet, 4 inches) to finish eighth in the long jump.
Tanner Drietz added 5.75 meters long jump mark (18 feet, 10.5 inches), while Irey leaped 5.34 meters (17 feet, 6.25 inches).
The meet wrapped up with a pair of 4 x 400-meter relay team. Carter, Armstrong, Johns, and Bennett teamed up with a time of 3 minutes, 22.08 seconds to place fourth. Their time is the fourth fastest in the school record book. Heinz,
Aaron Van Hemert, Hausman, and Anderson added a time of 3:33.94.
Dakota State continues their action next Saturday (Dec. 13) as they compete in the Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) Snow Tiger Invitational in Mitchell, S.D.
