VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) has established a new school record in women's heptathlon Wednesday on the second day of the North Star Athletic Association Multi-Events Championships. The two-day multi-events conference meet was hosted by Valley City State (N.D.) at Shelly Ellig Field at Lokken Stadium.
Amelie Steins started the day with the top mark in the long jump, leaping 5.21 meters (17 feet, 1.25 inches) for 617 points.
Casey Olson added 451 points after recording 4.59 meters long jump mark (15 feet, .75 inches).
Olson produced the top mark in the javelin for the Trojans, throwing 37.65 meters (123 feet, 6 inches) for 622 points. Steins registered a personal record 30.91 meters (101 feet, 5 inches) for 494 points.
The final heptathlon event was the 800-meter run, led by Steins with a personal record time of 2 minutes, 45.39 seconds for 513 points. Olson collected 361 points after hitting a career best time of 3 minutes, .40 seconds.
Kaitlyn McColly of Dickinson State (N.D.) captured her second straight North Star women's heptathlon title, tying her conference meet record of 4,682 points.
Steins finished second after scoring a new school record of 4,375 points for Dakota State. She broke the previous record holder by Jessi Giles with 3,593 points during the 2019 NSAA Multi-Events Championships held in Orange City, Iowa.
Steins is currently seventh in the NAIA women's heptathlon after the NSAA Multi-Events Championships. The top 16 heptathlon athletes will qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on May 21-23 in Marion, Ind., hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. The qualifying list for the NAIA heptathlon will be announced few days after the conclusion of the outdoor track & field regular season in early May.
Olson also hit a personal best with 3,664 points to finish fourth in the NSAA heptathlon. Her heptathlon points are the second most points scored in DSU school history.
The Trojans took the early lead in the 2025 North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships after scoring 13 points in the multi-events. Dickinson State (N.D.) is second with 10 points while Valley City State is third with six points.
Dakota State returns to Mankato, Minn., for the second straight weekend. The Trojans compete in the Maverick Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato. The first events are set for 12 p.m.
