YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Trojan men's indoor track & field team returned to action for the first time since Christmas break Saturday. The Trojans produced two national qualifying marks at the Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse in the Mount Marty (S.D.) Opener, as well as tying a school record in the high jump which was held for over 40 years.
Tysen Grinde hit the NAIA 'A' automatic qualifying mark in the high jump for DSU. He cleared the height of 2.08 meters (6 feet, 9.75 inches), tying the DSU men's indoor high jump school record mark with Doug Vlasman in 1985. Grinde's high jump is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA as of Saturday evening.
Bergen Irey and
Dawson Miller each produced personal record of 1.85 meters (6 feet, .75 inches) in the high jump, while
Brock Krueger tied his season best 1.85 meters. Irey and Krueger each tied for fourth place, while Miller finished sixth.
Grinde also tied for first place in the pole vault, clearing the height of 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9.25 inches).
Rasmus Loken cleared the height of 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9.75 inches) to finish seventh.
Miles Eide and Irey each tied their personal record of 3.45 meters clearance (11 feet, 3.75 inches).
Grinde also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, registering a time of 8.91 seconds to finish fifth in the prelims. Eides added sixth place in 9.31 seconds, followed by
Caden Gortmaker eighth in 9.80 seconds. Irey clocked a time of 10.11 seconds.
Three Trojans competed in the 60-meter hurdles finals, as Grinde improved his time to 8.85 seconds to finish fifth. Eide was sixth in 9.38 seconds and Gortmaker eighth in 9.73 seconds.
The Trojans produced another NAIA national qualifying mark in the weight throw, led by
Zachary Haugen with the 'B' provisional mark of 17.86 meters (58 feet, 7.25 inches). His career best mark put him fourth best in the DSU men's indoor track & field school history.
Oliver Tordsen added 16.89 meters toss (55 feet, 5 inches) to finish third, followed by
Tarin Bingham fourth with 15.33 meters mark (50 feet, 3.5 inches).
Dylan Johansen placed sixth with 14.99 meters toss (49 feet, 2.25 inches) and
Keegan Hensley ninth with 12.09 meters throw (39 feet, 8 inches).
Tordsen won the shot-put title with his personal record 15.79 meters toss (51 feet, 9.75 inches). His mark is fifth best in the Trojan men's indoor track & field school history. Johansen added third place after throwing 14.05 meters (46 feet, 1.25 inches), followed by Hensley fifth with 13.55 meters toss (44 feet, 5.5 inches).
Talon George was seventh (12.40 meters – 40 feet, 8.5 inches), followed by
Kolter Simon eighth (11.27 meters – 36 feet, 11.75 inches). Eide also threw 8.69 meters (28 feet, 6.25 inches).
Simon leaped 11.81 meters (38 feet, 9 inches) to finish fourth in the triple jump for the Trojans.
Lukas Bennett was the fastest runner in the 60-meter dash prelims, recording a time of 6.95 seconds.
Jagger Lombard added 7.08 seconds to place fourth in the prelims, followed by George fifth in 7.18 seconds.
James Burke was seventh in 7.20 seconds.
Trevor Heinz recorded a time of 7.33 seconds, Simon in 7.58 seconds, Krueger with a personal best of 7.65 seconds, Eide 7.67 seconds,
Daniel Agyeman 7.79 seconds, and
Tanner Drietz 7.94 seconds.
Bennett captured the 60-meter dash finals title by tying his personal record time of 6.88 seconds. His time tied for sixth fastest in the DSU men's indoor track & field school record book. Lombard followed up with a runner-up honor in 7.02 seconds. George finished fifth in the finals with a time of 7.25 seconds.
Holden Jelen posted his personal record time of 4 minutes, 39.11 seconds to earn runner-up honor in the 1-mile run for Dakota State.
David Brock finished the race in 5:06.45, followed by
Lucas Harr in 5:31.06.
Weston Frangenberg clocked a time of 54.54 seconds to finish sixth in the 400-meter dash, followed by
Payton Anderson seventh in 55.70 seconds. Brock was fourth in the 1000-meters in 2:58.63, followed by Harr fifth in 3:18.35.
Hunter Dimick finished with a time of 3:36.45 in the 1000-meter run.
Mohamed Muse captured the 800-meter run title in 2 minutes, .10 seconds for DSU.
Logan Recoy earned runner-up honor in 2 minutes, 1.36 seconds. Miller finished the race in 2:04.87.
The Trojans earned another event title in the 200-meter dash, led by Bennett with a time of 22.42 seconds. Lombard was second in 22.86 seconds. Frangenberg registered a time of 23.86 seconds.
Lane Henrichs led DSU with a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run in 8 minutes, 59.39 seconds.
Finley McConniel set a personal record time of 9:19.08 to place fifth.
Benjamin Strunk finished seventh in 9:33.58 and
Jonah Thiele in 9:42.63.
Dakota State returns to Yankton next weekend for the two-day Mount Marty Invitational. The two-day indoor track & field meet begins Friday with the multi-events – pentathlon and heptathlon – as well as the distance medley relay. The full slate of events are scheduled for next Saturday at Ruth Donohone Fieldhouse.
