YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) won four men's indoor track & field event titles on the second day of the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational and Multi's. The two-day indoor track & field meet was held at Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse.
Four DSU athletes continued their heptathlon action on Saturday morning.
Tysen Grinde kicked off with 8.92 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for 764 points.
Miles Eide added 9.37 seconds for 666 points.
Talon George recorded a time of 9.93 seconds for 554 points, followed by
Bergen Irey with a time of 9.98 seconds for 545 points.
Grinde was the top pole vault place finisher in the next heptathlon event. He cleared the height of 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.25 inches) for 659 points. Irey and Eide each cleared the height of 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11.75 inches) for 444 points. George collected 231 points after clearing the height of 2.45 meters (8 feet, .5 inches).
The final event of the heptathlon was the 1000-meter run. Grinde finished with a time of 2:56.64 for 698 points, followed by Irey with a time of 3:03.95 for 626 points. Eide earned 527 points after clocking a time of 3:14.75. George finished the race in 3:25.04 for 440 points.
Grinde captured the heptathlon title with a career best 5,029 points for the Trojans. His heptathlon mark is the fourth best in school history and No. 5 best in the NAIA. The top 16 NAIA heptathlon marks will be declared (and qualified to the national meet) after the conference championships in mid-February.
George finished with 3,792 points, followed by Eide ninth with 3,773 points, and Irey tenth with 3,563 points.
Zachary Haugen earned a runner-up finish in the weight throw after throwing 17.22 meters (56 feet, 6 inches).
Oliver Tordsen was third after tossing 16.62 meters (54 feet, 6.5 inches).
Dylan Johansen produced a personal record 15.23 meters (49 feet, 11.75 inches) to place fifth.
Tarin Bingham threw 14.38 meters (47 feet, 2.25 inches) for an eighth-place finish.
Other DSU weight throw results included
Lukus Mentele – 14.05 meters (46 feet, 1.25 inches),
Trenton Moran – 12.80 meters (42 feet), and
Keegan Hensley – 12.52 meters (41 feet, 1 inch).
Tordsen won the shot-put title after throwing 15.78 meters (51 feet, 9.25 inches) for the Trojans. Mentele earned a runner up honor after throwing 15.17 meters (49 feet, 9.25 inches). Johansen registered 14.34 meters (47 feet, .75 inches) to place fifth. Moran threw 14.27 meters (46 feet, 10 inches), followed by Hensley with 13.07 meters mark (42 feet, 10.75 inches).
Brock Krueger leaped 13.46 meters (44 feet, 2 inches) to win the triple jump title for DSU.
Kolter Simon was second in the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches).
Dawson Miller also cleared the high jump at 1.81 meters and finished sixth.
Tanner Drietz produced a personal record 6.02 meters (19 feet, 9 inches) to place third in the long jump.
Rasmus Loken cleared the height of 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9.75 inches) in the pole vault.
The running events started with the 5000-meter run, led by
Lane Henrichs with a time of 15 minutes, 54.51 seconds for a runner-up honor.
Finley McConniel was fourth in 16:06.56, followed by
Joshua Tucker eighth in 16:29.63.
Jonah Thiele finished the race in 17:14.99.
Lukas Bennett was the top place finisher in the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 6.97 seconds.
Jagger Lombard finished third with a time of 7.09 seconds.
Weston Frangenberg clocked a time of 7.38 seconds, followed by
James Burke in 7.68 seconds.
Bennett won the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.98 seconds. Lombard was second in 7.06 seconds.
Franklin Johns registered a personal record time of 4 minutes, 44.58 seconds in the 1-mile run for Dakota State. Miller clocked a time of 1:26.38 to place fourth in the 600-meter run.
A pair of DSU runners recorded under two minutes in the 800-meter run, led by
Tyler Nicke with a time of 1 minute, 59.46 seconds for a runner-up honor.
Logan Recoy added a season's best time of 1:59.47 to finish third.
Lucas Harr also recorded a season best time of 2:18.74, followed by
Hunter Dimick in 2:42.17.
Lombard was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.81 seconds. Frangenberg registered a time of 23.74 seconds in the race.
Holsen Jelen led the Trojans with a time of 9 minutes, 31.71 seconds in the 3000-meter run.
David Brock finished with a time of 10:27.98.
The Trojans closed the meet in the 4 x 400-meter relay with Bennett, Johns, Miller, and Recoy. They finished with a time of 3:29.67 to place fifth.
A schedule change has been announced to the Dakota State men's indoor track & field schedule. The South Dakota State indoor track & field meet scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, has been canceled. The Trojans added a meet to their schedule on Friday at the Concordia (Neb.) Polar Dog Invitational in Seward, Neb.
