MADISON, S.D. — Dakota State (S.D.) freshman
Sydney Quail was named the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The weekly award covers competition from Aug/ 31 through Sept. 6.
Quail, a freshman defender from Sioux Falls, S.D., earned the honor after scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in Dakota State's 2-1 setback against NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State on Sept. 4 at Dan Beacom Track & Field.
The Mustangs opened the scoring twice before Quail provided the first career goal at DSU late in the first half. She found the back of the net in the 43rd minute off a corner kick, sending the match into halftime trailing at 2-1.
Southwest Minnesota State eventually held on to a 2-1 victory over Dakota State.
Quail becomes Dakota State's first Cal Pac Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week recipient. The Trojans are competing as an affiliate member of the California Pacific Conference in women's soccer this fall.
This is the second time the Trojans had received the conference weekly honor (
Onika Kline last season in the Continental Athletic Conference).

Madison Smalley listed among the nominees for the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award.
The Trojans prepare for a pair of matches on the road against Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). DSU is making a trip to Orange City, Iowa, for a contest against Northwestern (Iowa) Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Dakota State then heads to Concordia (Neb.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Seward, Neb.
