ABERDEEN, S.D. – Mount Marty (S.D.) plated six runs three times during the game on the second day of the PC Softball Dome Classic Saturday, rolling past Dakota State (S.D.) 18-1 in five innings. The Lancers took the second meeting with the Trojans in two days, both in the PC Dome.
DSU finished the tournament with a 1-3 record. Mount Marty is 2-1 record after the victory.
Dakota State is off until March 11 as they kick off their seven-game slate in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational versus Jamestown (N.D.) and St. Francis (Ill.).
Mount Marty (S.D.) 18, Dakota State (S.D.) 1 – FINAL/5 innings
- Mount Marty poured in six runs in the opening inning, sparked by Emma Burns' lead-off double followed by Janeah Castro's RBI triple for a 1-0 lead.
- Karlee Arnold and Bailey Kortan each added an RBI single to make it 3-0 MMU in the top first.
- Ella Ray smashed a 3-run home run to widen Lancers' lead to 6-0 in the first inning.
- Dakota State answered with a run scored in the bottom half of the first inning. Carrington Entringer led off with a walk. Sarah Torres followed up with a single to advance Entringer to second base.
- Xotchil Lopez drilled an RBI double to score Torres as DSU trailed 6-1 in the bottom first.
- The Lancers used another six-run inning in the top second inning, ignited by Castro's solo home to kick off the inning. Burns capped the inning with a 2-RBI single to extend MMU's lead to 12-1.
- Mount Marty added six more runs in the top fifth inning to round out the final score.
- Lopez was perfect at the plate by going 2-of-2 with a double, single and an RBI for DSU. Torres and Michelle Evdos each added a hit.
- Castro hit a home run, triple, and drove in two runs for Mount Marty. Burns added three hits and three RBIs. Ray had a home run, single and drove in a game-high four RBIs. Kortan had two hits and three RBIs.
- Mount Marty tallied 17 hits in the game compared to Dakota State four hits.
- Madison Aldendifer (L, 1-1) recorded the setback after tossing two innings for the Trojans. Rosie Philop worked for three innings in relief.
- Kaylee Rogers (W, 1-0) tossed a complete game victory for MMU. She yielded DSU to one run on four hits. She recorded five strikeouts.
