TUCSON, Ariz. – Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off their seven-game stretch in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Friday at Kino Sports Complex. The Trojans could not overcome Jamestown's (N.D.) sixth-inning outburst, falling 11-3 in six innings.
DSU, who played the first time since Feb. 18, felled to 1-4 overall record. Jamestown, former members of the Dakota Athletic Conference and the North Star Athletic Association, improved their overall record to 12-9.
Dakota State faces St. Xavier (Ill.) in the second game on Friday afternoon.
Jamestown (N.D.) 11, Dakota State (S.D.) 3 – FINAL/6 innings
- After a scoreless first inning, the Jimmies struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom second frame. Katie Reisdorfer led off with a single. She advanced to second base after a sacrifice bunt by Steph Cota.
- Ally Battiston reached on base by a walk. Both swiped one base as Reisdorfer swiped home to give UJ 1-0 lead (Battison swiped to second base).
- The Jimmies extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom second as La La Romero hit an RBI single to score Battiston.
- DSU ended its scoring drought after plating three runs in the top third inning. Carrington Entringer led off with a single. She advanced to second base after Elizabeth Whitesides' sacrifice bunt. Entringer advanced to third after a defensive error committed by the Jimmies.
- Sarah Torres produced an RBI ground out to score Entringer as Trojans trailed 2-1 in the top third (Whitesides advanced to third base).
- Michelle Evdos reached on base by a walk with one out for DSU. Dakota State tied the game at 2-2 as Xotchil Lopez produced an RBI single to score Whitesides (Evdos advanced to second base).
- Dakota State took the first lead of the game at 3-2 when Mackenzie Sims hit an RBI single to score Evdos.
- Jamestown answered with three runs in the bottom third frame to overtake the lead, highlighted by Reisdorfer's RBI double, Cota's RBI single, and Halsey's RBI single for a 5-3 lead.
- Dakota State was unable to score in the top fifth inning, despite leaving bases full.
- Jamestown poured in six runs in the final inning, capped by Sunny Halsey's 2-RBI triple to secure the victory. Gracie Fisher also hit a 3-run home run in the inning.
- Lopez led the Trojans offense attack with two singles and an RBI. Evdos reached on base by a walk three times. Torres and Sims each added a hit and an RBI. Whitesides and Entringer each had a single.
- Fisher and Halsey each tallied two hits and drove in three runs for the Jimmies. Reisdorfer added two hits and an RBI. Romero, Santina Zito, and Cota each added a hit and an RBI.
- UJ outhit DSU 10-6 in the game. The Jimmies left seven runners on base compared to the Trojans five runners left on base.
- Rosie Philop (L, 0-2) took the loss after working for three innings. She allowed four runs (one unearned) on seven hits. Sophia VandenBosch tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief.
- Halsey (W, 2-2) recorded the victory in the pitching circle for Jamestown. She pitched three innings and allowed three unearned runs on three hits. She recorded seven strikeouts. Katie Merchant tossed three innings in relief, yielding three singles, and registered five strikeouts.
