Drealan to retire after outdoor track & field season, Glover to succeed

Drealan collected more than 15 North Star Athletic Association Coach-of-the-Year awards

MADISON, S.D. – Cross country and track & field head coach Anthony Drealan has announced Thursday morning during the press conference that he will be retiring from coaching at Dakota State after this outdoor track & field season.  Associate head coach Alex Glover will succeed Drealan, starting the next academic season.

Drealan had been at Dakota State University since his college days as two-time NAIA All-American runner, assistant coach under legendary former head coach Buzz Stevenson, and has been the head coach in both cross country and track & field for the past ten-plus years. 

Drealan was inducted into the 2023 DSU Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete and members of the 2009 Dakota Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship team. 

The Trojans collected a combined 19 North Star Athletic Association conference team champions during Drealan's head coaching era:
  • 6 men's cross country (2014, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022)
  • 2 women's cross country (2019, 2024)
  • 6 men's indoor track & field (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025)
  • 5 men's outdoor track & field (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024)
He collected more than 15 North Star Athletic Association Coach-of-the-Year awards.

Drealan's athletes have earned two (2) individual national champions, seven (7) individual national runner-up, 43 NAIA Track & Field All-American honors, more than 400 North Star track & field All-Conference combined in both indoor and outdoor, 41 NSAA Cross Country All-Conference awards, and have broken numerous DSU track & field school records.

Glover has been the assistant coach under Drealan in the past 12 seasons, promoted as the associate head coach last season.  During Glover's time as the throws and multis coach, his athletes have garnered one (1) national champion, four (4) national runners-up, 15 NAIA All-America awards, 17 NAIA national meet qualifiers, and five (5) NSAA Field Meet Most Valuable Athletes.

He has coached more than 40 All-Conference field events' athletes at Dakota State.
