MANAKTO, Minn. – The Dakota State University Trojan men's outdoor track & field squad hit numerous personal records Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato meet, the Maverick Open #1. The outdoor track & field meet was held at Mark Schuch Track Complex, featuring all NCAA Division II and III schools.
Xander led Dakota State with a runner-up honor in the javelin, producing his career best 47.63 meters (156 feet, 3 inches).
Tysen Grinde added a fourth-place finish with 44.30 meters (145 feet, 4 inches).
Jonah Thiele ran a personal record time of 10 minutes, 34.35 seconds to finish third in the 3000-meter steeplechase for DSU.
Curtis Johnson led Dakota State with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, registering a time of 1 minute, 57.40 seconds.
Tyler Nicke was eighth in 1:59.92. Other DSU results included
Franklin Johns – 2:02.85;
Grayson Madsen – 2:03.30,
Holden Jelen – 2:03.37,
Dawson Miller – 2:05.01,
David Brock – 2:09.94 – personal record,
Lucas Harr – 2:16.97 – season best, and
Hunter Dimick – 2:24.77.
Grinde clocked a time of 58.22 seconds to finish fifth in the 400-meter hurdles for DSU.
Bergen Irey added a time of 1 minute, 3.66 seconds.
Payton Anderson led the Trojans with a time of 11.72 seconds for the eighth fastest 100-meter prelims.
Javon Newkirk finished 10
th in the prelims in 11.82 seconds. Anderson advanced to the finals where he finished eighth in 11.76 seconds.
Ben Witt registered a personal best 50.45 seconds to place seventh in the 400-meter dash for DSU.
Mattix Hausman added a season best 53.79 seconds, while
Noah Haynes clocked a personal record time of 55.38 seconds.
Lukas Bennett earned a third-place finish with a time of 21.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash for Dakota State. Witt added a personal record time of 22.78 seconds, followed by Anderson with a time of 23.18 seconds.
Bryant Paulsen produced a personal best time of 25.22 seconds, while Haynes added a personal record 25.37 seconds.
Caleb Sayer collected a sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a season best time of 4:04.83. Blake Schmeidt followed up with an eighth-place finish with a personal record time of 4:11.02. Benjamin Struck clocked a personal best 4:16.18 to finish ninth.
Kaiden Akey recorded a time of 4:54.87.
Robert Begalka tossed a personal record shot put toss of 13.85 meters (45 feet, 5.25 inches) for the Trojans.
Jack Hemmen also hit a personal record 40.42 meters (132 feet, 7 inches) in the discus.
Brock Tuttle registered a personal record 39.35 meters (129 feet, 8 inches).
Luke Borowicz threw 38.58 meters (126 feet, 7 inches), followed by
Houston Lunde with 36.14 meters (118 feet, 7 inches) and Begalka with 31.42 meters (103 feet, 1 inch).
Hemmen tossed a personal record 45.63 meters (149 feet, 8 inches) in the hammer throw for DSU. Lunde threw 43.68 meters (143 feet, 3 inches), while
Tarin Bingham recorded a toss of 43.05 meters (141 feet, 3 inches).
Brock Krueger tied his career best 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) to finish fifth in the high jump. He also improved his personal record of 12.60 meters (41 feet, 4.25 inches) to place sixth in the triple jump.
Samuel Olson and Grinde cleared the pole vault of 3.83 meters (12 feet, 6.75 inches).
Dakota State wraps up their regular season outdoor track & field season Friday and Saturday. The Trojans head to Vermillion, S.D., for the NCAA Division I meet, the University of South Dakota Tune up. The outdoor track & field meet takes place at Lillibridge Track Complex on the campus of USD.
