MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Trojan cross country squads are slated to run in their second meet of the 2025 season Saturday morning. The Trojans head to Sioux Center, Iowa, for the Sunflower Open, hosted by NAIA's nationally ranked Dordt (Iowa).
The Trojan women's cross country, receiving votes (RV) in the NAIA national poll, kick off the meet in the 5K race starting at 9 a.m. DSU men's team is scheduled to run after the women's race, competing in the 8K race at 9:45 a.m. The meet is being held at the Defender Cross Country course on the campus of Dordt (700 7
th Street NE).
Season Opening Meet Recap
- Dakota State kicked off their 2025 cross country season running 'under the lights' in the NCAA Division II meet on Sept. 5 at Yankton Trails Park. All collegiate levels from NCAA Division I to junior colleges competed in the race.
- Both Trojan women's and men's cross country registered the highest place team finisher in program history in the Augustana meet, placed in the top seven in each team standings. Dakota State women's team was the top NAIA team place finisher, while the men's team finished as the top Frontier Conference team defeating (RV) Bellevue (Neb.).
- DSU women improved to its previous highest place finisher from last year where they finished ninth. The Trojans finished sixth out of 26 teams with 229 points, averaging 18 minutes, 57 seconds over the 5K racecourse.
- Two Trojan runners produced 'Top 30' times in the women's cross country school record book, led by Brooke Beaucaire with the 5K career best time of 18 minutes, 25.20 seconds. Lindsey Roth added her career best 5K time of 18:43.57, the 11th fastest time in the school record book.
- Dakota State men's team excelled with a seventh-place finish in the team standings, placed seventh out of 25 teams with 262 points with a team average of 20 minutes, 17 seconds over the four-mile course.
- Lane Henrichs produced a personal record four-mile time of 19 minutes, 56.80 seconds for the Trojans., followed by Evan Armstrong with a 4-mile personal record time of 20:01.73.

Dakota State is off until Oct. 4 as they run in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational. The Trojans return to Sioux Center on Oct. 11 for another meet hosted by Dordt.
