KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dakota State (S.D.) junior
Tysen Grinde from Spring Grove, Minn., has been named the NAIA Men's Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week after a dominant performance at the Mount Marty (S.D.) Opener on Jan. 10 in Yankton, S.D.
Grinde delivered one of the most impressive all-around showings in the NAIA so far this indoor season by capturing two event titles. He headlined the meet in the high jump, where he cleared 2.08 meters (6 feet, 9.75 inches) to win the event against a field of six athletes.
The mark also carried historic weight for Dakota State because it tied the school record first set in 1985 by Doug Vlasman. Beyond the program significance, the clearance has also risen to the top of the NAIA performance lists as the current number one mark in men's high jump this season.
Grinde followed that with another winning effort in the pole vault, where he cleared 4.20 meters and tied for first place in the field of fourteen athletes.
His day in Yankton also included the 60-meter hurdles, where he placed fifth in both the prelims and the finals. He clocked a time of 8.91 seconds in the prelims before improving to 8.85 seconds in the finals.
Dakota State returns to Yankton Friday and Saturday for the Mount Marty Invitational and Multi-Events. The heptathlon and pentathlon will take place this weekend, as well as the distance medley relay on Friday and a full day of events on Saturday.
