YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) captured an individual title and three runners-up honors Wednesday at the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight outdoor track & field meet at Williams Field. The Trojans also highlighted with personal records in the meet, featuring schools from NCAA Division I, II, and local NAIA schools.
Lukas Bennett, who collected his second North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week Tuesday, earned a runner-up honor in the 100-meter dash. He clocked a personal best 10.66 seconds in the race.
Payton Anderson followed up with a time of 11.51 seconds and
Javon Newkirk in 11.61 seconds.
Bennett won the 200-meter dash title after recording a time of 21.61 seconds for Dakota State. Anderson posted his personal record time of 23.10 seconds, followed by Newkirk with a time of 23.81 seconds.
Noah Haynes posted his personal record time of 25.44 seconds.
Blake Schmiedt earned his career best time of 10 minutes, 4 seconds to finish second in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Three DSU runners finished under two minutes in the 800-meter run, led by
Logan Recoy with a personal record time of 1 minute, 57.78 seconds to finish eighth.
Franklin Johns added a time of 1:58.46 to finish 10
th.
Tyler Nicke registered a time of 1:59.81, followed by
Yohannes Kassa in 2:00.39. Other DSU results included
Grayson Madsen in 2:02.56,
Holden Jelen in 2:02.63, and Schmiedt in 2:04.18.
Johns led the Trojans with a time of 4:15.76 in the 1500-meter run.
David Brock earned a personal record time of 4:33.05, followed by
Lucas Harr in 4:48.46,
Hunter Dimick in 5:04, and
Kaiden Akey in 5:13.53.
Lane Henrichs clocked a career best time of 15 minutes, 40.09 seconds to place fourth in the 5000-meter run for DSU.
Benjamin Strunk added a personal record time of 16:04.17 to finish 10
th.
Jonah Thiele finished the race in 16:46.54.
Dawson Miller registered a time of 54.63 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Mattix Hausman finished with a time of 54.91 seconds, followed by Haynes in 57.71 seconds.
Bryant Paulsen posted a time of 1 minute, 5.25 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
Joshua Tucker wrapped up the running events with a runner-up honor in the 10,000-meter run. He recorded a time of 33 minutes, 50.97 seconds in the race.
Tysen Grinde cleared the height of 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3.25 inches) to finish fifth in the high jump for Dakota State.
Brock Krueger produced a personal record 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) clearance to place seventh. Irey cleared the height of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches).
Krueger claimed a fifth-place honor in the triple jump, leaping 12.46 meters (40 feet, 10.5 inches).
Samuel Olson led the Trojans with 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8.25 inches) mark in the pole vault. Grinde cleared the pole vault with 3.67 meters (12 feet, .5 inches), followed by Irey with a personal best 3.27 meters (10 feet, 8.75 inches).
Xander Sheehan led the Trojans with a seventh-place finish in the javelin with a season best mark of 45.44 meters (149 feet, 1 inch).
Bergen Irey added a personal record throw of 34.88 meters (114 feet, 5 inches), while
Houston Lunde recorded 31.15 meters (102 feet, 2 inches).
Luke Borowicz threw 42.88 meters (140 feet, 8 inches) to place 11
th in the discus for the Trojans.
Jack Hemmen threw a personal record 39.80 meters (130 feet, 7 inches), while
Robert Begalka added a personal best 38.27 meters mark (125 feet, 6 inches). Lunde registered 37.41 meters (122 feet, 9 inches).
Dylan Johansen added 36.96 meters (121 feet, 3 inches).
Borowicz tossed 45.52 meters (149 feet, 4 inches) in the hammer throw. Lunde threw 42.75 meters (140 feet, 3 inches) and Hemmen with 41.80 meters mark (137 feet, 1 inch).
Begalka led DSU with 13.26 meters mark (43 feet, 6 inches) in the shot put. Johansen tossed 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8.75 inches).
Dakota State kicks off the first day of the 115
th annual Drake Relays at Bulldog Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, late Thursday afternoon.
Evan Armstrong,
Curtis Johnson,
Mohamed Muse, and
Nolan Slominski will start the 4 x 800-meter relay at 4:44 p.m.
Caleb Sayler is scheduled to run in the open 5000-meter run at 7:52 p.m.
